Our newest artist, John Moses, sat down to ask Jaysin Jefferson, shop owner & artist, a few questions about an upcoming convention. Jaysin and Gia will be representing the shop October 4th – 6th!

Anime Ink Convention Richmond, VA October 4-6, 2024

John: Tell us a little about the convention you’re going to in a couple weeks.

Jaysin: In Oct I’m going to Anime Ink Tattoo Convention in Richmond, Va. I’ve been following it since it started 5 years ago and haven’t been able to get there yet. I’m excited to finally be able to get there and it should be a lot of fun. Looking forward to meeting up with other folks I’ve met at  conventions.

A lot of people will be doing interesting things – people to learn from and network with.

JM: I know you do a lot of anime inspired tattoos. Why does this art style appeal to you?

JJ: Because I’m a child trapped in an adult’s body. I’ve been watching anime as long as I can remember — Cowboy Bebop, Akira, and Dragon Ball Z. Long before Toonami and Adult Swim, I used to go to Sun Coast Video back in the day to pick things up like Fists of the North Star.

JM: Do you have a favorite anime inspired tattoo that you’ve done?

JJ: The Chainsaw Man sleeve that I’m currently working on is one of my favorites. I have a lot of cool projects going on right now but that one is getting close to completion. I also love the Gundam sleeve that I wrapped up last year – that was a fun project.

JM: What piece of flash is your personal favorite of the work you’ve prepared for Anime Con?

JJ: The One Piece designs that I drew up. Why, because you’re just invested when you’ve watched over 1100 episodes over 10 years.

JM: What’s your favorite anime right now and why?

JJ: I’m rewatching Goblin Slayer. I just really like the art in it and the story too. Beardcutter is singularly focused.

JM: Is that your all time favorite? If not, what is?

JJ: No, it would have to be HunterXHunter. I just love the story – Gon’s pursuit to meet his dad and asking what is so interesting about being a hunter that his dad chose to do that instead of raising him. Just Gon’s overall optimism and cheeriness in everything.

JM: How can people connect with you at the convention?

JJ:  Hit the “Book Jaysin” button with details on the tattoo you’d like to get done or stop by our booth! I do have limited availability, so it’s best to prebook your session.
